During the last two weeks of August, our services are designed to introduce core concepts and principles of Unitarian Universalism to those who may be seeking a spiritual home or who are just curious about our liberal and liberatory faith. This year, we examine two terms that can be problematic for some UUs as well as many spiritual seekers, especially those who are recovering from painful experiences with their religious upbringing: “faith” and “religion.” What do these words mean in a UU context? Can those who think of themselves as “spiritual but not religious” find a home in Unitarian Universalism? Are we a religion? Or are we a movement? Is there such a thing as the “religious left?”
