In 1804, the Universalist Rev. Hosea Ballou published “A Treatise on Atonement,” a detailed rebuttal of the belief that Jesus was sacrificed to atone for the sins of humanity. This Sunday, we review Ballou’s ideas, and we consider what a generous, forgiving, universal Love means for UUs today.
