On this MLK Day weekend, it is good and right to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. King, but it’s also important to remember that no one person was responsible for the Civil Rights Movement. No one person ever changes history alone. Movements are, by default, the work of countless individuals, giving of their time, talents, treasures, and, sometimes, putting their lives on the line. What happens in the spotlight is only possible because of the work behind the scenes. Today, we will consider the critical work of three great justice warriors: Ella Baker, Pauli Murray, and Bayard Rustin. We’ll hear their stories and how they continue to serve as role models today.
