Join us online or outdoors, on the lawn! Oklahoma County is now at the high risk level for COVID, which means that we can move to the next phase of our reopening plan and have a seated service outdoors. To minimize set up and clean up work, please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, if you can. We will also have chairs already set up for those who need them. Because vaccines aren’t yet approved for children, and because we remain committed to family ministry, we are asking everyone to wear a mask and remain distanced. We will have special nametags available indicating each person’s comfort level with hugging and handshakes. After the service, we will have some circles set up for circles of care and other small groups that would like to meet. We have sufficient seating for 100 people, so please arrive a little early to ensure you find a space.
Sermon by Rev. Diana: Seances. Spirit guides. Speaking with the spirits of the dead. Did you know that all these things are connected to our UU heritage? In the second half of the 19th century, many Unitarians and Universalists were also practicing spiritualists. In fact some of our UU ancestors were key figures in the Spiritualist movement in the United States. How could such a belief in the afterlife coexist with a commitment to reason and science? And what value does this history hold for our faith today, especially for those of us who are humanists and non-theists?
Costumes encouraged! There will be a Halloween costume parade at the end of the service.
